Make - up
' That's when you have to get really creative and come up with fx make up using staff you have around you and that's when the fun starts.
You end up using cornflakes and gelatine to make burn wounds or make fake blood from meat colorant and maizena. '- KAYAH
KAYAH about her passion
' As a teenager I was fascinated by all the horrors films like 'Dawn of the Dead' or " Freddie Kruger", but instead of following the storyline I was observing the characters and wondering how the make up was done. Then I came across Tom Savini's book "Grande Illusions" in which he reveals some of tricks of fx make up. And that's how I started trying out the make up technics using my friends as first victims. '
' In Warsaw, Poland I graduated from Maria Dziewulska's International school ot Make-up Artists, then in Amsterdam I attended to Else le Comte Make-up School. I learned a lot of great staff there but my greatest teacher was the blood diva of the underground fx scene Suzie Terror with who I worked on many projects in the past. '
' Mainly independent short films like "Vegan Vampire" with which we won The Time Capsule Award at Imagine Film Festival, films with the " Psychocru " which I'm part of like "De kat, de kast en de krusende vrouw", "Schat ik ga Fietsen", "Ill campeggio dei morti viventi". Other films: "Zombeer", "Vera", "Import" (Blikschade Films"), "Carnifex", "Wraak", "Recycle de Dead", "Poppenspel"
Besides films I also worked for National Jeugd Musical Theater on musicals "Narnia" and "Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek". '
' My favourite type of work with make up are the low buggets projects when you don't have a lot of fancy materials to work with. That's when you have to get really creative and have to come up with fx make up using staff you have around you and that's when the fun starts. You end up using cornflakes and gelatine to make burn wounds or make fake blood from meat colorant and maizena. When the effect looks great it gives me more satisfaction that I created something out of nothing, instead of using very expensive materials. '
